This is the 3rd season I have seen this deer. Could have had a chance on him last year with my bow, but I shot a buck the day before he showed up. This year he was #1 on my hit list on my Lampasas lease. He is the best buck we have taken on the whole place in the last 4-5 years.
It all went down Saturday morning, I was sitting in my stand by 6:30 am. He came strolling right by me about 6-8 yrds away around 6:50, still dark but I could tell it was him from his kickers and tall tines. My feeder went off at 7am and immediately a couple smaller bucks came in. A few minutes later he rolls in and takes over the corn pile. The wind was just barely blowing and I tried to be as quiet as possible pulling back. I'm still amazed I got drawn on him, a doe busted me drawing on her the afternoon before. He was at 21 yrds and I felt good about my shot but not great. I did hear a large thunk a few seconds after he took off and I was hoping/praying that was him hitting the dirt. Waited a little while and found my arrow, it was covered with a light coat of blood, not bad, but not the dark bubbles I really like to see. I was worried I shot him a little forward. I didn't find any blood within 40-50 yrds of the shot. But I found him about 8 minutes later about 80-90 yrds from the shot. He was leaking like crazy the last 30-40 yrds and the sound I heard was him hitting the ground. I hit both lungs, center punched the outside one. So much for a bad shot. I couldn't be happier. Best buck with bow, best bow kill ever for me.
