    A Buck named Flathead

Since 2011 we have been chasing a deer named Flathead that has always been a protein hog but has never been one to show up at a corn feeder or during daylight hours at the protein. I personally have been after him and guiding hunters for him since 2013 with no luck of even seeing him in person but once last year. This summer he was at the protein more than ever and I'm thinking this is finally going to all come together. Well Friday the 2nd rolls around and I check the camera to find I have no photos of him in the last 3 weeks! Thinking it was going to be another long year of waiting for him to show I headed to the stand Saturday morning. I did the usual routine of corning the road around the protein pen, drove off, and walked back to the tripod. After being in the stand for about 10 min in the dark I could here a good deer really raking some brush hard across the pen from me. A few minutes later I could make out the enormous figure of a deer walking out in the moonlight. As soon as the sun came up, I came to the realization that the big bodied deer in front of me was Flathead and I about fell out of the stand with excitement. I waited for little more light then I let an arrow fly and listened to him crash less than 40 yards away!

    Aged him at 7.5 plus.

Nicely done. There is nothing like the feeling of putting your tag on a mature animal that you have been after for years. Congrats.
