Last year I videoed a deer and wondered if he'd make 200" or not.
Well, now I know! Opening morning, as I sat with my wife (her first time to sit with me), I saw him. I've waited a year and he's now standing at 20yds, just as daylight is breaking. Was this the moment? I didn't want it to be done so quickly...little did I know, he was playing hard to get. I suffered through 2 hours of watching him, without a shot. He was either moving, other deer were in the way, or...he was laying down. Yes, not once, but twice he laid down at 40yds. He got up one time when the feeder went off at 8am instead of 7am, the timer was never reset. I thought that would bring him in for the kill shot, but no...he went and laid down in the sun. This was a pretty cool morning in Caldwell, about 52 degrees. I guess he was sunning, or knew I was there and was torturing me! Finally about 8:45 he got back up. I was prepared for a 45yd shot, but he turned towards me and closed the distance to only 20! Once he hit 20yds, he turned slightly quartering away. I was finally able to let the arrow fly. What a stud of a deer! I made the long journey to enter him in the Los Cazadores contest. They scored him at 213 7/8"! Like I said...now I know! Definitely a 200 class monster!
