    This is awesome!

After 4 years on a lease in Burnet where if you saw a deer, you better shoot it, because you may not see another one.....I've finally graduated to a place in Mason with deer!

Opening morning, I'm late to the tripod, but it didn't matter. Feeder spun and I had 10 deer in front of me 5 minutes later! Nothing impressive, several does with twins, a couple spikes, and now a yearling 6 point, but at least we have deer!

Sure makes it fun knowing there is no pressure to shoot, and you can enjoy yourself.

Certainly does! I've shot some deer I wished I hadn't at the old place because I didn't take the time to REALLY look at them. If they made the mistake (and almost only the young ones did), they got shot. It's awesome to have the confidence to let them walk, knowing you'll have another shot, and probably at something better. This place has some great deer, and some young ones that already look like shooters. I've never experienced that before.

Well, the first weekend of hunting on the new place is officially over. No deer were taken, but many were seen. This morning, I had about 10 or 12 in front of me (hard to keep count). I was thinking about taking an old doe, the only female to come in without twin fawns, when a hog came busting in and ran all my deer off. Big mistake on his part, he took a slick trick through both lungs, ran off about 40 or 50 yards and piled up on some rocks. I could still hear him moving and breathing heavy, so I figured I'd give him the obligatory 30 minutes. Well, 30 minutes turned into 90 minutes when the deer came back 5 minutes after I shot the hog! They wouldn't leave and I didn't want to alert them to my position!

              Here's your LDP.

Llano/Mason area can produce some amazing animals. My cousins had a long time lease near Mason and killed many deer that one would have thought came from South Texas.

We have some impressive looking bucks on cameras, some of them too young to shoot yet, but also some that are post mature. I wish we could get it on MLD as I truly believe the animals would be even better if we weren't so overpopulated.

Congrats on the hog, if it's anything like my lease in Menard the hunting stays good all season long. Late December is just as good as anytime to kill a goodun.
