Well, I've got a big boar and a medium boar that are regulars at one of my spots--7 or 8 nights out of ten, usually between 9 and midnight. So, seems like the odds are in my favor-right? NOT! I think they have hooked up with the NSA and are monitoring my cell phone location!
Two weeks ago I arrowed a good boar at this spot and didn't recover him. Gave it a few days and went back Sunday night--good moon, calm winds (bad) and gave it a sit. About 10:15 I look to my right into a 30' x 50' clearing separated from the feeder pen by a thick screen of brush and see two calves facing my direction--at least that's what I assumed, and resumed watching the feeder and the usual approach path. Looked back and one of the "calves" had turned and gave me a profile view--not calves. He was about 15-18 yds away, and the 2nd one was 20-22 yds away. The weren't too keen on coming into the feeder, so I'm assuming that due to the calm winds, my scent had pooled and spread. The larger one did work towards the pen, and then backed out, then came back and got into the screen of brush, and then backed out again, and departed. I considered attempting a shot at him while he was standing in the clearing, but with the bright moon and having no cover in that direction, didn't think I could draw without spooking him so I just watched, wishing I had the 12-ga. I stayed another 2 hours with no more action.
Went back last night after spending a night in the river bottom where I killed a good boar with the rifle. Very light winds from SE--perfect, so I get all set up. 3 hours later, I call it a night. Pulled the camera card and when I reviewed it, I noted that they had been there Monday night from 10 until 3 in the morning--so where were they last night?
Here's the larger of the two:

Here's his buddy--

Got a social engagement tonight and a meeting tomorrow night, but maybe Friday I'll go give 'em another chance to catch an arrow thru the ribcage.
