Well it finally happened Wednesday 12-27-06 at 5:55 PM. This was my first season to bow hunt and I will never gun hunt for deer again. I had a blast every time I was in the stand whether I saw a ten deer or no deer. I had many opportunities but passed on the shots until one week ago. I was sitting in a tripod stand with my cousin sitting about six feet away in a tree stand. We got to the stand at about 4:30 PM and waited. The wind was blowing toward the feeder so I wasn't expecting to see much. The feeder did its part at 5:00 PM but the deer didn't. My cousin stood up in the tree stand and looked to the north and saw a deer coming to the feeder. It was a small buck that fed on the corn for about 10 minutes. This buck looked up at us many times due to the wind blowing our scent right to him. Then my cousin whispered to me that there were more deer coming in behind us. I could see four does making their way around. The first one passed through a clearing that was approx 30 yards away so I got ready. The second one stopped and I released an arrow. My home made lighted nock lit up and I watched the arrow fly about two inches over her back.
I got extremely discouraged but my cousin told me to nock another arrow and wait. Sure enough a couple of the does circled around to the feeder and one gave me a clear shot at 20 yards. Once again I released my arrow and the light came on and I watched my 100 grain 4-blade muzzy equipped arrow pass through the deer. She ran approx 30 yards and layed down. We waited about 15 minutes then went over to her. She was dead. My first bow kill.
