From First day to lat day, From Dad's Perspective--- A story of Graham family 2014 - 2015 season.
Last season we found out we would loose our Junction Lease, The Kid's were finally old enough and experienced enough to hunt by themselves. We decided to to not join a lease and try out Brushy hill ranch, the overall price was cheaper than a lease and we would be able to hunt where giant buck's roam. Below is both my kid's story on when and how they shot there bucks. I want to thank the Denny family for always taking our reservations and requests and also the Ranch manager Nick for all of his help on the set ups and just all around good people. To say I am a proud dad is a understatement. They both hunted on there own and also helped build blinds and really hunt on there own. I am so proud that I booked us all a 10 day trip to Africa, My life long dream come true. In the end that is what all of this hunting is about right? Pass it down and make great memories for life. I love you both Nate and Laney and can't wait to share a life time of campfires with y'all.
Laney's Story: Opening weekend at Brushy Hill Ranch, i was so excited i could hardly contain myself! We had been hunting for two days already, it was our last hunt and we hadn't seen one deer all weekend. I was super excited when I began hearing something chewing behind my blind, it seemed pretty close so I grabbed my bow and waited, and waited, and waited... After about ten minutes, I leaned forward to see if there was anything coming in from the side, and you can probably guess what it was... cows! i started texting my dad about how infuriated I was, after practically blowing my dads phone up i looked up and their he was. The deer Nick had been telling us about. He was the biggest deer i had every seen in my life! He had chased out a doe and stopped to eat corn at 30 yards. I waited as long as i could for him to get closer because my pins only go up to 20. I couldn't stand it any longer and i was defiantly not going to let him get away. I drew back with him at 25 yards and waited for him to turn broadside. I took a leap of faith with that shot but, it was all worth it. We waited till dark, and found him 200 yards away from the blind. If i would have shot him 1 inch to the left or right we defiantly wouldn't of found him. Im so blessed to have had the chance to shoot this 200 pound 9 point buck!
Nate's Story: Last weekend of the season at the Brushy Hill ranch was by far one of the most memorable hunting weekends I will ever have. This is a buck I will hold high for the rest of my life, hunted in the same stand the day before and had a very nice 10 point come out and even then I was able to get him to come over with a grunt call, drew back on him but right when i was squeezing he took off. Right after that a nice mature 8 point came out but not quite what i was looking for. Came back that afternoon and got skunked. Decided to go back to that blind, that nick had pointed out would be a great late season spot, that next morning and sitting there watching a bunch of turkeys and just enjoying the last day of season and noticed some deer movement about 40 yards to my right in the brush. A doe came out of the woods and was walking off and I saw more movement in the woods, threw up my binoculars and saw the dark chocolate horns and long tines and knew it was a great mature buck! He followed out the same trail the doe did and he stopped at about where i though1 was 40 and gave me a quick look, drew back on him and he turned and kept walking. I grunted and he stopped at where I'm guessing to be about 65 70 yards, I put my 60 yard pin about half way up and squeezed it off. Hit him hard but it was further back than what i wanted, waited about an hour and snuck out of the blind and went and got dad and laney. We went into town and got something to eat and gave him about 6 hours and we went back to look. Found the arrow and after that the blood was pooring, he only went about 150 and pilled up! Better to be safe than sorry right! The Ozonics was a huge help in this hunt, had a terrible wind and the deer never knew i was there! They RamCat Broadhead did an amazing job and will be shooting them a lot more! There is no way i could have done this without my family and they help of Nick!
