    Oldest deer on the farm.

Here in Kansas it has been a season of ups and downs. The first of November I was able to connect with a nice 140 class ten point. After what we believed was a good hit we searched for days and never recovered the buck. Since then I made the goal of only shooting one of our hit listers that would score 150+. The limited time I had in the stand was always productive several encounters with shooters and I passed several 130- 140 class deer. We have been managing our farms for 10 years now and it is really starting to pay off.

Sunday night I was able to hit the blind for a quick evening hunt. About 5 o' clock the deer started funneling in. I had several mature does and one nice 8 pt in range. As I was scanning the field edge I noticed a huge bodied deer coming. I thought for sure it was one of our bigger bucks again. But as the deer came in I soon realized it was a doe. Not just any doe but a big old grey slick head. I knew this deer all too well, her grey coat and short ears were very distinctive. She was one of the oldest deer we have on our farm. I quickly got ready for the shot. Once she gave me the opportunity I hit her with a Rage. She ran about 40 yds and fell. I couldn't have been more pleased. She was aged at 8 y/o!!! She may not have a huge set of antlers but defiantly a trophy to me.

Now a few more weeks to fill a buck tag then it's off to Texas in January to finish out season!

We have been fortunate this year to have several big bucks running around. Hopefully they make it till next year and continue to grow.

Shallowater what part of the state are you from?

How far did she twist the needle on the scale?

That stinks about the buck. Good luck the rest of the season though!
