    Strange deer down!

Finally got a chance to shoot the weirdo that I had on camera before season started, unfortunately he had lost one antler, and the other one was hanging on only by skin when I shot him Saturday morning. It came off in the process of him going down, but I was able to find it. Posted up a bunch of pictures on the other post (Weirdness abounding at my feeder in Around the Campfire section), but I wanted to put one in the actual Bowhunting Reports.

Yep. Both still in there. He smelled like a typical buck in rut too. He had wet tarsal glands and was all around healthy, well fed deer, minus the grossness in his skull.

Looks like there is dried velvet on the antler?

He could have severely damaged them in velvet in a fence or something of the sort. Maybe one was completely ripped off and the other was hanging on.

Or maybe some sort of infection/fungus on the pedicles.

Just a guess, Im sure somebody on the GS has a better offer

he had them both antlers on Wednesday, so sometime between then and Saturday he lost one and the other one was just barely hanging on by a skin patch

Very strange, but something you definitely don't see every day by far. It would be cool to find out why the horns were like that
