Subject: My first bow kills.
I took up bow hunting last year . Due to a multitude of different
factors, I did not even pull a string back last year. From having only
young animals to shoot at , to getting busted , or just not having any
thing in my range to shoot at, I came away empty handed last season.
But that all changed last weekend at the Whodathunkit Ranch. I finally
had luck in my corner. I had been watching this nice cull buck in front
of my blind all evening. He finally lined up for me at 15 yards, and I
let my arrow loose. It was at last light and I got a clean pass through
shot through his heart. The arrow hit the rocks behind him and a shower
of sparks shot up .He crashed on the other side of the feeder and that
was about fifty yards. Wow , I finally did it!
The next morning found me at a different blind and ready to try
again. The feeder timer was off, and it sent corn whizzing about 30
minutes too soon. At 20 minutes till 7am, it was just light enough to
barely make out shapes . But I had about a dozen Axis deer and a few
Whitetail does already eating. All of a sudden, every animal at the
feeder , took off like a covey of quail.I knew they had not winded me,
so I waited. In comes mister Porky Pig, and he continued to keep all the
deer at bay. He would run off any one that came near the feeder. It is
getting lighter, but still just dark enough where you had to strain to
see clearly. I am afraid he is going to leave, he had been eating for 30
minutes now. So I wait till he turns and faces away from me at 20 yards.
He gives me a quartering shot and I take it. ****, a bit behind where I
wanted . But he is hit hard.
Now here goes out a huge Thank You to Wildman and Lacie. Lacie is
Danny's Chocolate Labrador. She turned out to be the determining factor
in locating this porker. She got on this blood trail and at 3/4 of a
mile later, we find this boar .After some discussion of shot placement,
we both decide the outcome is the same, he's dead!
Thank you, Clent and Judy for letting me hunt. Thank you, Danny Evans,
for being a good teacher and for helping me in the tracking.
Here are three pictures, of the 5 point Whitetail buck, the heart shot
, and the pig. If you have not tried it,you should, and don't give up.
It's a blast but it ain't easy. Bowhunting!!
