I'm lookin to plan a bear hunt for 2015 and starting to research... For the guys that have gone where and what time do y'all think would be best and why???
Black Bear Island Lodge in Saskatchewan. Awesome hunt with great fishing to boot. You will catch 40" pike and have a chance at some huge color phase bears.
Alberta has some big bears. Prince William sound has the biggest bears from what a few of my buddies tell me and either of these two places will give you a shot at a 7' bear.
I would do a spot and stalk hunt up near vancouver island or somewere up there... Bear hunt by boat and eat all the fresh sea food you want..
I did a hunt like this with bolen-Lewis in coastal BC. It was a boat based hunt. I killed a great bear, a wolf with a bow and a wolf with a rifle. Plus, got to put out crab pots and eat dungeoness crabs. It was fantastic. It's expensive but it's one of the most fun hunts I have been on.
NM has some great bear hunting. Im an outfitter for Bear and Mountain Lion here. P.M. me for more information.
There is no baiting here but hound hunting, spot and stalk, and sitting water holes works real well. Archery hunting can be done from August 16-November 15 (or till quotas are met). 6'-7' bears are harvested regularly.

My cousin runs dogs in NM also I just don't know what outfitter
Do plenty of research before you book. We looked at tons of outfitters before we made our decision - factoring price, location, number of tags, hunter success ratio, color phase harvest percentage, fishing/additional options, travel feasibility, etc. Remember that you get what you pay for up to a certain point, and that a few hundred bucks extra for a "trip of a lifetime" isn't all that much in the long run. Whoever you go with, good luck!
