    Bear hunt 2012

Since I am going on another bear hunt next week i figured i would share my last bear hunt with y'all.

Back in may of 2012 i got a call from a good friend of mine named roy roth that lives up in alaska saying that i needed to get up there and shoot a big bear that he had coming in. 4 days later i had tickets bought and was on a plane heading north.

once i got there and saw the pictures of this bear i couldn't wait to get in the stand. we took a nice little 8 hour boat ride up to the first camp which was 160 miles up river and put a game plan together to go get this bear the next afternoon that was another 20 miles up river and 6 miles up another creek.

When we woke up the first morning in the cabin i woke up to Roys son Justin hollering from excitement. Justin was on his way to the calling of nature at the out house with bow in hand cause he said " we are in bear country and you never know when one will show up", well he stepped out on the porch and there was a nice 5' bear between him and the out house so he smoked him with a rage then came into wake us up. After caping his bear out it was my turn to go try and get mine.

We made it to the bait sight and got settled in. within 10 min a small 4.5' bear walked in and roy said wait yours is bigger. it felt like hours passed by with us just watching this small bear at the bait ( only 15 min) then he got up and looked down a trail and bolted up the tree next to me. I waited anxiously as i could hear the big boar walking down the trail and then through some thick brush not caring who or what heard him coming in. When he got to the bait he looked directly up at roy and i then over at the small bear in the tree next to us and then layer down. Roy told me he would lay there and eat but eventually had to stand up to shake more food out of the barrel and when he did that i needed to shoot him cause we were running low on light and the river would get dangerous to run in a few hours.

minutes later he stood up and gave me a perfect quartering away shot and the oe T3 did its job getting a lung and some heart. He went 15 yards and let out a death cry. through the whole process of shooting, taking pictures, and getting my bear to the boat that small bear never left that tree lol.

I ended up hanging out at the cabin with Justin and Roy the next 5 days and helping them put up new stands and doing work on others. We left the hays glacier area with 9 bears in 6 days and I filled all three of my tags with my biggest bear squaring at 6'1".

I will have a buddy with me this trip and have shot a few bears since that trip all around alaska on public land without a guide and hopefully we can keep having the success that I've had in the past on this hunt next week.
