Short story really....no prior history with this buck at all. Setup to hunt a 8-point management buck today for my sausage quota. Sitting in the blind scrolling trough all the Tc Pix on the Ipad seeing the buck I came to hunt was fairly consistent and looking like he would show up for me. I relax back in the chair in anticipation he would show. 10 minutes before the feeder goes off a young 4 point pops up and starts to feed. I'm looking at my phone for a minute and then glance back at the 4-point to be surprised by a 24-3/4" buck looking back at me. I immediately had the binos in hand and studying the wide unknown buck. I didn't have any pictures of this deer and it was taking me a few minutes to figure out what to do next. He is a very small bodied buck with a first glance appearance of what a 3-1/2 yearold looks like, except his head and calluses on his front legs.
He's nervous and I'm assuming from maybe the first time at this feeder or first time back to this spot in along time. Feeder goes off and he runs back behind the feeder but not far off. The decoy 4-point comes right back in convincing the wide buck to loop downwind and work back in as well. Cameras recording now and he takes some time to stay still moving a lot picking up corn ,it feels like along time but it was probably just a few minutes before I had a shot. Made a good shot with the Evo and walked up to the widest buck I've ever taken. He's not what we'd call a trophy type buck on our place but he's a trophy to me. Sure was a fun hunt not knowing this buck at all and it happened quick around 4:35 this evening.
Sorry for the tongue hanging out and only a tailgate ldp. I haven't perfected the self timed photo skills for when I'm by myself yet. He grossed 132" with 24-1/2" mainbeams and a 24-6/8" inside spread. He also had maybe 2" broken off total. Very cool buck!
