I was lucky enough to get drawn for Hagerman this year, not so lucky that it happen to be the worst ice storm in recent years! My buddy and I did manage to stick out the weather all 3 days. We ended up hunting the north end of Big Mineral. We felt good on all of our scouting trips seeing numerous rubs and scrapes. I set up on a great game trail and of course had high expectations, as does every Hagerman hunter. As the weekend wore on, I came to the realization that I was basically on hog hunt not a deer hunt. I literally saw 100+ pigs on Saturday alone and only 2 small bucks and one legal shooter all weekend. With that many pigs around it would be hard to find a decent deer still in the area. It was so cold I didnt want to change stand locations, so I was hoping to nail my 2 pigs and get a pass for next year. Smoked my first one on Saturday at about 20 yards, made a perfect shot and he only went about 50 yards before he piled up! My first bow kill ever. Pretty cool it came at Hagerman! Saw a few more but couldnt seal the deal. All in all it was an amazing experience out in the woods this weekend. Congrats to all the other H hunters that stuck it out to the end!
