I hunted 4 hours Saturday morning and 3 hours that evening never seeing a deer until a few minutes before dark. I still had a doe tag and a buck tag to fill. I thought this was a doe and made a perfect shot, right through the heart. It ran 30 yds and dropped. When I got there with my light, I was disappointed to find that it was a spike with about 1" showing on each side. Since I had already gotten my spike the week before, this would now have to be my "buck" for this season in this county. This was a hard lesson for me, a newbie, and from now on I will have binoculars on me to verify exactly what it is I'm shooting before I shoot! I also think I was a bit desperate after a long day of hunting. There're are always more deer and more days to hunt. On the plus side, it's the best shot I've made. I used a Thunderhead broadhead for the first time and really liked it.
