Many of you saw my Campfire post about the coyote but I wanted to share the story here plus I shot a doe last night. I went for a pig too but they didn't move last night.
I'm in story telling mode so bear with me or just scroll down to the pictures!
Yesterday morning I climbed into the stand at my sister's near Hearne in Milam County, one we call the Bubba stand. It's really a two man stand but we all know two people can't fit in it! I have never seen a coyote while bowhunting but Tracey is loaded with them because we've both lost kills to them many times. I thought it would be cool to get a predator though. It's was still gray dark when I heard two coons go at it but it ended abruptly with a scream. Ten minutes later a coyote streakes by about 50 yards. Even if it had stopped there was no shot through the brush. I drew my Mathews Chill bow in case another showed up or this one came back because I knew I would only have a few seconds. Right then a second dog came through the fence and stopped at the clearing edge not 20 yards away! It was facing me so I held on his forehead. My Hexx arrow, tipped with a Razor Trick, zipped into its right eye, through it's skull and down its spine, laying open the back from shoulder to hip. DRT! 20 minutes later the second one doubled back but I missed her. She was even closer and less cautious looking for her half grown (and now dead) pup.
Last night I hunted a tree stand close to my sister. We were both skeptical on seeing anything because of the high wind but you miss 100% of the opportunities you don't take. I was in a narrow wooded travel lane and I hoped it blocked enough wind so they would use it. A minute after the sun was down two does and a large spotted fawn came from my left. The larger doe in the lead and the fawn trotted right under me. The third stopped and turned broadside about 18 yards away. She found an acorn. Again I was already at full draw so I made the shot. She turned back to me right then and I spined her. She dropped, groaned and bellowed. Tracey thought it was a pig. I had a second arrow loose in the quiver amd nocked it quickly amd quietly. I took a few seconds to make the best shot I have ever made and sent the Razor Trick into her heart. In 5 seconds it was over.
