After a great opener with my dad, I decided to slip down to my bow lease a couple miles from my front door for a Sunday afternoon hunt. The plan before the season was to cull out a doe before the rut kicks in. Around 5:30 a lone doe made her way to my feeder. She gave me a great shot at 24 yards and she did a serious "dumping the string." You talk about giving her a hair cut! It was a clean miss as it sailed just over her back. Aim low!!!
Right before dark another good doe made its way to the feeder. I waited for the perfect shot opportunity and let the slick trick magnum to the rest of the work. TBH'er Coogfan shares this lease with me and he was hunting his stand at the time. We met up and after a quick tracking job and back to the house, I had slick head #2 on ice.
My plan for the weekend worked out just the way I wanted it to which does not happen often. Now I can sit back, wait for the rut and hope for a big buck to make a mistake.
Till next time!
