    15 Years in the Making

I have dreamed about this day for over 15 years. I have practiced for this day for over 2 years. I will remember this day for the next 60 years.

6:54am, My release lets loose the Easton A/C/C, Blazer guided, and Sonic Pro 100 broadhead through the new blind's shoot through mesh. All I remember from the shot is telling myself, "touch the string to your nose, touch the string to your nose and aim low." THAWACK!!!

I saw him when he was already at 30 yards, and it looked like he was going to walk right past me and into the woods. He was going to have to pass my 30 window, so I drew back. Then I realized that it wasn't a good shot, so while I am at full draw, he stops, and takes a few steps 90 degrees to his right and is now facing me head on. He lifts his nose high, trying to smell what is not right in the woods today. He then walks straight towards me...25 yards, 20 yards, 17 yards...and takes another 90 degree right putting him broadside facing my left. Puts his head down, and I can't believe this is all happening.

6:55am, I try to figure if I should sit tight and hope for the does to show up that typically have been showing up around 8am. I pull out my wax and wax my string and cables to pass time.

And then the challenge started in. All of my rifle kills have left a red carpet leading to the deer. WHERE IS THE BLOOD???? Then, at 7:35am...

I walk it out, lose the blood. Circle back and start again, it is very spotty. I could have sworn that I heard him go down. But where is he? Just a few spots of blood here and there, then at 7:40am...

Relief....now I confirm that I hit lungs. In the rush of the shot, I had no clue where the hit was. But now I know........lungs. I continue to walk out the trail which is a little easier to follow AND THEN!!!!

I have never had anyone close to me bowhunt, so even though I wanted pursue the more intimate form of hunting since the age of 19, I just couldn't afford a bow, nor did I have anyone to help me figure out the insane amout of decisions involved in archery hunting. THEN, I met all of you after I moved from my home state of Pennsylvania, to my home...Texas. You all have encouraged me, and dealt with my countless rookie questions, and frustration rants. I talk about you all like best friends to others. I thank you.

The Sonic Pro 100 head cut like a surgeons tool. A tad high, but never touched a rib.

Yes, it is a management spike, but my landowner has instructed us to take them out.....even telling us to bring our rifles for the spikes only (it is a bow only lease). I am so proud of this little dude. I have countless trail cam pics of him, and tons of hours in the blind seeing nothing.

And here it is....after a long post, and a long wait (15 years). My first Archery LDP.

That strap is what the landowner tied him to!

That is in Wharton County. Right on the Brazos.
