    Thunder Chickens in Missouri

LONG READ BUT WELL WORTH IT!! We tried with bows but did not happen the way we wanted it to and after spending $350 in tags, we hammered'em with the big guns. Turkeys were just not in the mood!! There is always next year!!
Well, I don't know if we hammered them or if they hammered us. The turkeys were not gobbling very well but we did manage to get three turkeys between myself, Tisha and my buddy Nick. I bet we walked 30+ miles and that is no joke!! We checked every nook and crany of the Ozarks.

Well, here is the story on Tisha's Turkey form the Ozarks. By this time we had hunted about 2 solid days with nothing to show. We went back to Nicks grandparents house and went to go talk to the neighbor that sais we could hunt his mother-in-laws farm. We got at 4:30 AM and headed to the new spot. We headed through a clover and native grass field to a creek and right as soon as well got the to creek!! A gobbler gobbled about 60 yards from us and scraed the crap out of us. After we regained ourselves, we set up right there and waited. He must have gobbled 10 times while he was on the roost and then flew out to the field right in front our but at about 60 yards. Which was a little far. Then his lady friends joined him. He bred one of them right in front of us, which was pretty cool and gobbled about another 5 times. After he bred the hen, he headed our direction with Nick calling softly. We heard Nick say "KILL HIM, KILL HIM NOW" and Tisha said "I CAN'T HE IS BEHIND SOME BUCK BRUSH" and I told her "I WILL TELL YOU WHEN TO SHOOT" due to the fact that she was sitting in my lap so she was in front of me. The hen and the gobbler headed our direction with the hen in front. Finally he got a little clear and Tisha blasted him at about 15 yards and the hen was about 5 yards away!! Very cool and I thank god that I was able to be there to experience that!! It weighted 22 1/2 LBS and had a 9 7/8" Beard.

As for mine.... We got up at 4:30 again on the LAST DAY of the hunt and heaed out behind Nick's grandparents house and we heard some turkeys gobbling in the far distance. We headed towards them stopping every so often to see which way they were. After walking about a mile back to the area where we heard them. Nick hit his call and one gobbled off in the distance. We set up on him and Nick called for a while but the gobbler would gobble every so often but sounded like he was headed over the rise away from us. So here we go.... We moved up through a thicket and up to the eadge of a clover field and Nick hit the call again. The turkey gobbled about 200 yards away and we proceeded into the field and started to sneak when all of the sudden another turkey gobbled about 100 yards away. We set up quickly on the edge of the field and Nick hit the call again and after about 15 minuites and a few gobbles as he headed towards us the gobbler showed himself but he was at about 60 yards. Nick softly called but the gobbler showed no interest and started to spook. I heard Nick say "KILL HIM" and I said he is to far. Nick said "YOUR SHOOTING A FREAKIN 10 GAUGE.... KILL HIM HE IS GOING TO SPOOK"!! I shot and nothing happed to the turkey so I followed up with a 2nd and a 3rd. One of those shots hurt him bad and I ran up and shot him again with my last shell as he was starting to fly off!! AWESOME!! It weighed 19 1/2 LBS and had an 11" Beard

    NICK'S TURKEY WEIGHED 22 1/2 LBS and had a 10 1/2" Beard
