My parents have a place off 390,directly north of town, between 36 and Independence. I have done a little hunting in the area but not much. I see, and have gotten on camera, lots of bucks, but nothing worth watching(narrow spread in an AR county and young) and a surprisingly low amount of does. Anyone hunt this area regularly? I would REALLY like to take advantage of this area because I don't think a lot of people hunt it, nor do I have to pay for it...just want to know if there is some potential for this area. Lets see what the GS can teach me about hunting ole' Washington county. I'd love to spend more time there...

If you're between 36 and Independence we are in the same location. There are some decent deer showing up over the last decade or so with the AR is place. I feed all year and plant plots twice a year. Have lived here all my life and have never killed a deer here. Have some hogs moving in and around the area, too.
Where exactly is your property located? My family has some land down around the Sun Oil Field. Deer are making progress, even though it may be a little slow.

I know they brought some deer from south Texas up here some time ago! I know the genetics are getting better! We had one that scored probably 120, let em go so the genetics would pull through! Otherwise I don't think we'd see as many shooters as we do now! We also got way to many does!Last edited by Gunner; 08-01-2013, 04:36 PM.

My buddy hunted out there about 8 years ago, and they always shot one good deer every year. Granted im not sure exactly where he was compared to where you are. I would think though the potential is there. You never know what might walk out those woods. Id say feed them, hunt them and see what happens. Definitely take advantage of your doe tags during bow season if more doe show up.
My other buddy hunts clear across town, and may not see but the same 3 deer 90% of the time, but he has killed a 138 that was cruising the area. They're there, just have to be in the right place right time.

Two of y'all fellows, Bowhunter718 and down2hunt, must be nearly neighbors to me. I live up the road from Gerke. I have cattle pasture rented on Gerke and two pieces of family property on Janner Kuecker. We've got some nice up and comers in the area. Cousin of mine killed a 138" buck season before last. Just put trail cams out this past weekend. The drought has been hard on them, but they are looking ok now. We'll have to meet up one day soon to see where each other is and to compare game management philosophies.
