This weekend we had our 2nd Annual Spring Turkey hunt in Shackelford County on the Clearfork of the Brazos.
The turkey hunting was really tough. The birds talked on the roost and then flew down with the hens and would not respond to calls at all. It is really hard to hunt them when they are not vocal.
The Ranch has a few feeders running and after a few unsuccesful hunts trying to call in the birds, Saturday afternoon I set up on a feeder. I had a tom come by and I called to him with no answer. Then several minutes later he came in from behind me and started in on the corn. Not a text book spring turkey hunt, but I have fresh turkey waiting for the fryer.
Here is a video I put together from the hunt:
2008 Spring Bird
He had about 1 inch spurs and a 9 1/2 inch beard.
