    Mid Week East TX Action

I have been saying that I was going to start taking wednesdays off now for about a year. Well, I atleast took off most of the day, I went in to work at 2pm.
I got up at 4am this morning and drove to the lease. I was not very excited about the hot and humid temps but after thinking about how little I may get to hunt this year, I packed my truck up and hit the road.

It did not take long for a doe to show up. I could barely see her in the early overcast conditions. I watched her for about 30 or 40 minutes just letting it get light. It wanted to be certain that she was a mature doe before I let an arrow fly (not wanting to make the same mistake I did a while back shooting a nubbin buck at first light).
Just about the time I could really feel comfortable shooting her, 3 hogs started to make there way in from down wind. She quickly ran off and they all put on the breaks at 18 yds. Before I could get an arrow in one, they ran off.
10 minutes later, the doe came back. This time she planted herself at about 16 yds in my best shooting lane on the left. I would not even need to stand up or adjust myself, just lift my bow and draw.

I fired up the engine on the Switchback and sent a Muzzy on a recon mission. In a split second, my arrow was sticking out of the ground with my luminok lit up. I knew she was dead, I just had to wait for her to figure it out. In the mean time, I quickly knocked another arrow and came to full draw again. A corn bandit was making his getaway too. I had one small opening to shoot him at about 25 yds. The coon was not very happy about his new tatoo either.

After a long search because of a poor blood trail, low light, and the fact that she made a small loop (making me do a circle a couple of times), I finally found her piled up about 40 yds from the stand. I recovered my arrow from the coon but did not take pics of him.

Sorry for the poor LDPs, I had to use my trail camera and the humid conditions had the lenses fogged.

I would have never thought to use a game camera to take an LDP! Too bad the lighting conditions weren't better. Congrats on the doe!
