So, back in August of THIS year, I was not a bow hunter. And today I’m posting this thread on TBH. Unbelievable! Thanks in very large part to my great friend Cam-Mac I am now a bow hunter for life!
I shot a bow for the very first time on August 17th. Practiced a lot since then. Sat in the ground blind several times. And about 4 weeks ago, the first shooter came in while I was sitting. He was a nice mature 8 that we’d seen on camera.
I came very close to soiling myself. At that point, I knew I was hooked on bow hunting. But I never got a shot that I was comfortable with.
We sat on the morning of Dec 7th in hopes of seeing the 8 again. First thing, 6-7 slick heads came in to eat and were there about 15 minutes. But, one of them was extremely skiddish and kept looking our direction. And they left kind of hastily. So, we thought we were busted. However, about 15 minutes later, I look up and see this stud about 45 yards out coming down the draw. Cam was messing with the video camera and didn’t see him yet. And all I could muster was: “Duh, duh…there’s a buck!!” He stood outside the fence for a few minutes and turned and walked away from us about 10 yards which made me think we were busted again. Then, suddenly, he just turned around and hopped over the fence and walked toward the feeder. He enjoyed the last supper behind the feeder for 2-3 minutes and then stepped out and presented perfectly broadside! I had so much adrenaline, the 70lb draw felt like 2lbs. I surprised myself that I was actually able to settle the pin on the vitals and let ‘er fly.
He jumped the string slightly and my shot was a little high but got lungs, nonetheless. After about 45 minutes went to look for blood and surprisingly (because I was using a Rage) there was very little blood. So, we decided to go back to camp and warm up. After another hour we went after him and found him. He made it about 70 yards. Wow! What a trip!!
Here's a link for the video that Cam edited. He's just a regular Steven Spielberg. And really apprectiate the bonus footage he put in the end.
