    Today's Hunt

Well, got to the lease last night around midnight:30 and got the heater cranked up and got ready to hit the sack for the early morning hunt. Well, around 1:15 a.m., the building starts shaking and sounded like ball bearings were dropped on the roof. I opened the door and was immediately pelted by sleet and it was snowing.

Climbed out of bed around 5:00 a.m. and decided to drive to the front of the ranch in the truck. I parked, grabbed my gun, I know, a gun, really, and walked about a quarter mile to my tripod. About 7:00 a.m. I noticed a doe at the feeder and watched her for about 30 minutes. Then saw a nice buck about 200 yards away, and figured he was headed to check out the doe and feeder, but alas, he had other plans and kept on walking. A big doe then came from the same location of the buck, and she too continued on her path. The doe at the feeder left and now I'm wondering why I never heard the feeder sling any nuggets. I got off stand and made my way to the feeder to check the battery and timer. This is when I discovered the clock said 8:11 p.m. instead of a.m., and that the corn was hitting the ground 7pm and 3am. Fixed that problem.

Around 1:30 p.m. headed out to my pop-up with the bow. While walking to the stand, saw a doe about 75 yards away browsing along the fenceline. I had to go through the gate, which she didn't care for, and she trotted off, carrying three other deer with her. I got into my pop-up to the chattering of squirrels. This feeder is set to go off at 3:30 p.m. and I still had 30-minutes when I saw a buck making his way through the mesquites. He was about 50-yards out, but no way for a shot. He went down into the creek and went to who knows where. About 3:25 p.m. saw three other doe working their way down a trail, but they never came towards the feeder.

Well, nothing came into the feeder until 5 minutes of daylight left. It was a doe, and she didn't stay long as a coyote started yipping about 50 yards away. She threw up her tail, blew and was GONE.

Did I say it was COLD! If not, it was COLD!
