As many experienced Saturday morning, it was a soggy sit if you were in a tree stand. On and off rain, I still saw plenty of deer movement and by 8:00 there were 3 fawns and a couple of does gathered under the feeder. I took the opportunity to draw my bow when nobody was looking, then had to wait forever on the biggest doe to quarter away.
I touched the release, saw the nocturnal light up, the doe jump, and they blew out of there. No pass through cause I don't see a Beman or lighted nock under the feeder. I could see the direction of 3 deer as they crossed a clearing about 80 yards out, but no sign of the noctunal.
I climbed down to find no arrow, no blood, and it's pouring down rain.
Not a good way to start the season, but I knew I had hit her pretty hard, so I took off in the direction they headed. 30 minutes of looking with no blood and I headed back to the Hilton to wait for a break and get help.
Benben returned with me to search and I found her piled up against a tree, 100 yards from the stand and not a drop of blood around??????????? I found the 100g Muzzy and some broken off arrow, buried in the ground about 10 feet from where she lay. Her last stumble snapped it off in the ground.
The shot must have been a hard quarter, cause I hit her behind the last rib and it came out the opposite shoulder. Like I figured, the nocturnal was buried up inside and when we unzipped her, you should have seen the blood flood.
So the Hogboy's on board this year and looking forward to the rest of the season.
