Well, I was thinking about not posting, because I was a little ashamed of this deer, with it being only a year and a half, but Doyle and Skip told me not to be disappointed. Very tender venison is in our freezer, now.
Skip and I have kept our arrows together in the same quiver, but recently I got a new quiver and forgot about it. I got set up in the blind , went to do a draw test, and realized I didn't have ANY arrows with me. What a way to start a hunt...duh! I walked over to Skip's setup and told him I probably wouldn't have any luck without an arrow, so he lent me one of his (I don't even remember what kind they were, but they ended up working just fine). I think his broadheads are Slicktricks.
We went out for our evening hunt at GT, and when I set up in the blind, this little guy kept coming in to visit. I thought he might be the only creature I'd see. He would peek in and look at me, run outside and run across the blind top...he was very noisy! I liked him. He must've been good luck.
Good luck charm:
I wasn't really expecting to see anything much after watching a squirrel and birds eat our corn from our feeder.
We were hunting at Lake Georgetown and right before dusk about three little does walked around to our protein block and lapped up some C'mere Deer. They wouldn't walk in front of the feeder, though. Believe it or not, she was the biggest of the group...they gotta go so we can get some big does goind in the herd. The deer were at about 25 yards, and all I could think was how tasty she would be (since we were out of venison), so I said a quick prayer, drew back & let the arrow fly. I thought it was a pretty lousy shot since she jumped the string, I used unfamiliar sized arrows and broadheads, but Skip and I went to track it. No blood. No arrow. No anything. And it was getting very dark. Bummer. We both looked around for about 20 minutes, and I again was getting discouraged. Skip shouted, "Hey, I found your arrow". Good, I thought, at least that's recovered. I walked over to him and said, "Where is it?". He said, "It's right over there inside that deer". The deer had been lung shot and we couldn't find any blood trails. I don't know how the heck Skip saw that doe, but I'm glad he did!
I dragged her back in to get weighed (please don't even ask) and we processed the meat and now it's in our freezer!
Here is the massive beast (the deer, Skip...very funny), and...you all may need to increase the size of your displays to fit the entire doe on your screens...lol:

P.S. Skip still needs to shoot one for us...lol...I mean, goodness, do I have to do EVERYTHING around here???
