    San Saba Turkey Hunt

Well BTLowry and I went tried to find the turkeys in San Saba! My friends place was right on the San Saba River northwest of town. Since they have had so much rain, it was knee deep in green grass most places and over our head in blood weeds everywhere else. We had to make crop circles to set the decoys and put up the blind. BT used the owl call to try to see if any turkeys were around. He is a master at it. We had owls flying by our heads and roosting in the trees all around us. But we never heard a turkey. Friday night, Sat morning, Sat afternoon, Sun morning. No turkeys. We went to a friends house Saturday afternoon looking for hogs and saw 2 turkeys. We didn't have permission to turkey hunt there. We drove from Regency bridge to Colony, Chapel back to San Saba Saturday. Today we drove from San Saba down Wallace Creek road to Cherokee and back to San Saba. We stopped in several Wildlife Management Areas on Wallace Creek road and listened. We never heard a turkey gobble. We never saw any other turkeys. We saw 2 rattlesnakes, some squirrels and lots of deer. We had a great time. Thank goodness it was free.
