    Bobcat

Last week I found myself with a rare opportunity to spend 4 wonderful days in the brush country of south texas at my lease near Tilden. My Inlaws were in town so I got the ok from Momma to leave her and the new baby to get some time in during the rut.

The first several hunts started out slow and uneventful just watching a videoing some does and a couple real young bucks. Knowing that the deer were on the move I decided to get off the feeders and go to them. I set up a camera and some hand tossed corn on a sendero I suspected deer were traveling. By the next morning we had a couple does, young bucks and a nice 10pt showing up on it already.

Now it was getting late in the week and my time was running short. Birkhead loaned me his spare pop-up and we sat it up in probably not the ideal location but we were pressed for time. By 2 we ha the blind up and roads re-corned then a quick switch in to some fresh hunting clothes and I settled in for the evening hunt.

After an hour I finally caught movement, it was a young Cull 3pt that I decided needed to go but not today, I had 10pts on my mind.

The 3pt fed for a while but got nervous and moved off, then shortly later I caught movement again and noticed a small bobcat moving right to left as she crossed the first of my two shooting lanes. I knew I wouldnt have much time, so I quickly pressed play on the video camera and drew my bow. As the cat entered into my lane I drew a bead on her as she was quickly walking. I released and the arrow struck a little high spining her and she dropped in her tracks.

    My FIRST BOBCAT!

Well after the excitment wore down and I sent text messages all around TX, I decided to sit a little longer but knowing that the cat dead in my primary shooting lane would detour any deer.

Low and behold, I hear corn being crunched and it sounds like its 20-30 yards away. I lean forward and see his tines threw a mesquite bush, but that was as far as he would make it with a dead cat laying inside 10 yards of my blind. For the next 45 minutes sat and listened knowing my buck was within range but there was nothing I could do....kind stole some of my excitement of the bobcat I just harvested.

Video is not bad but I was videoing thru mesh and it all happened very fast so its short. Hopefully I can work on it some this week if Im not out hunting more.
