Well,I went from an adrenaline high,to a dissappointed recovery, and then back up a little with a double on a doe.I got up in my stand about an hour and a half before daylight yesterday mornin',and knew that it would be good conditions hunting right after the front blew through,I always have good luck on this place right behind a front. Before 1st light,I heard several deer moving in around me,and made out 4 does'.first there were a couple of younger bucks coming in and picking does' out,and chasing them all over the place.I thought..this is good, then I thought,no this is bad-they are chasing all my does' off, lol. Then I spotted something big bodied moving through the very dim light of early morning, and pulled up my binoculars to catch a glimpse of his right side just before he entered underneath the limbs of a tree,to work a scrape just out from me.I honestly thought that he was fully intact, and settled my pin behind his front shoulder as he continued working his head up in the licking branches, and squeezed the release as I heard the welcomed Thwaaack, and watched as he ran out in a half circle, then stopped and began wilting down, until I saw him fall over behind some mesquites. As I waited to be sure he was expired,I thought....heck I'll just sit a bit longer and maybe try to get a double. It was about 25 minutes later that this big doe worked in below me,and I made the connection for a second time that morning,I was pumped as I watched her run out and pile up,not 40 yds from where my buck layed. As I walked up to them after a half hour wait,It was only then that I noticed that my buck was a busted up,great framed 8 point. He would have been a beautiful mount with his sweeping beams, had he not busted off the majority of his left G2,and the tips of both brows. As I walked back to the truck on the other side of the creek,I spotted two big sow hogs, and a passle of little shoats,I knocked another arrow, and thought that I might be able to pull off a triple this morning, but missed the opportunity as they winded me,and peeled off into the thick briars of the creek.I am disappointed in the surprise of the busted points, but have no regrets on this season,as it was made complete a few days prior when my daughter took her buck, and captured it all on film for our memories together!
