Went out to the ranch for a quick trip this past weekend. Saturday evening we were sitting in the blind when the feeder went off and in ran 10 hens. It was still early and we were still after a deer, doe or buck. The turkeys finally left but came back after an hour and a half of not seeing anything else but crows...
They spotted some of our movement and decided they had enough. Our set up is at the end of the field facing a large, lone mesquite tree 25 yards away. The turkeys ran off to the right and were going to go around the tree and head into the woods to the left. I drew back when they were all beyond the tree and hoped one would meander in for more more kernel. Sure enough she did and I held my pins on her from 30-20 yards as she walked back in and let her have it right below the dome and she dropped like a sack of potatoes!
She was still for about a minute while 3 of the others watched her and then did a death flap for about 30 seconds that sent an enormous cloud of dust into the air. My first hen using a Slick Trick Magnum 100 grain. I was very impressed to say the least. The broadhead cut through the entire neck, including spine and jugular, and only left the front neck skin attached!
Thanks for reading and happy hunting
