I'm not a real good story teller so you'll have to cut me a little slack. I took my wife and son to west TX. mule deer hunting this weekend. This was my sons 1st anything bow hunt. We took off Sat. morning and hit the ranch around 1:30, we had just enough time to unload, grab the bows and go set up the pop ups. I get to where my son and I were going to hunt and suddenly hear the unmistakeable sound of a blown tire. I jump out and do one of them NASCAR tire changes on the dually, set up the pop up and we are off again. I take the wife to her stand and drop her off. It's a good 30 minutes back to the other blind and my son is chomping at the bits. We hauled but back down and made it into the blind around 5:30. We sat there for a while and my son is explaining to me how we made to much noise, waited to long, and he didn't think we would see anything. I tried explaining patience to him but I would have been better off giving that speech to my lab. Well at around 7:00 I hear em coming, I tell my son to stand up and get ready, it took em a good 20 minutes to come on in to the feeder. We had set up exactly 14 yards from the feeder and I told him he was not aloud to shoot any farther. Well the deer stayed rite behind the feeder at 16 yards and he was wigging out. The whole time we are whispering back and forth with me coaching him on the shot, there posture and when and where to shoot. At one point he whispered DAD, DAD, I think I'm having a heart attack. I said HUH, he said my heart is beating so fast my chest is burning and I think I'm gonna throw up. I almost blew the hunt rite then from laughing. With 5 minutes of shooting light left, a doe finally steeped up to about 13 yards, turned broadside and posed for him. THWACK, she jumped, his eyes bugged out and they both freaked! I explained to him we should give her some time and it would be better to go get his momma 1st. We went to get my wife and she had connected on a doe and a javi so we loaded them up and headed back. We got back to the blind and before I could get the truck in park my son was out of the truck and out in the headlights looking. We picked up the trail and found his doe laid up about 40 yards from the shot. He is 12 years old and I do believe he's hooked, we got home from the 8 hour ride and unloaded the truck, I look out the window and he's out in the yard with his bow slinging arrows. I think I like him playing this game a lot more than the Xbox.
The pic isn't the best but it was late when we made it back to camp so it was the best I could do.
