Anybody hunt the Menard area yet?

What are the condition of the deer? Does it look like the draught has affected horn growth?

At least we won't have an acorn crop and they will have to come to the feeders this year.

Any other info would be appreciated.

    Thx!

The deer are still there and are very hungry. We have been seeing more at the feeder this year than ever before. They are a little thinner and the antlers are a tad bit smaller than last year.

Well maybe the old bucks you never see at the feeders during daylight hours, will maybe be seen. Hmmmm

I head up there on the 14th.

I bet that roaming Axis heard is no where to be seen. Probably down at the river.

Drought is alive and well in Menard. The deer are in poor to average condition, but we do have a few that put on some decent antler growth. Our plan is to harvest does early and often and who knows, maybe one of them bucks will win us over. Pray for rain.

The deer around Cleo are showing signs of the doubt. The deer seem smaller and we have more "freaks" than the last 17 years. There are acorns falling but not anything like last year. I have also seen several spotted fawns (not axis) proof of late rut and 3 bucks that acted as if they were in rut.....no I had not been drinking either , at least not right then anyway. On a good note the hogs are easy picking right now
