I headed to the lease early on Thursday b/c I was too pumped to wait until Friday to leave. I packed the Jeep to the gills inside and out.

I got there, pulled cards, set up the new feeder b/c the coons were doing a number on the other one at this set-up. Friday I hunted my set up on the hill which has been taken over by pigs. I killed two pigs in two hours but in a hurry to get to the stand left my phone and camera in the jeep so no pics of the hogs. I tracked em and drug em both back to the feeder to hopefully deter the other hogs but deep down I know that wont work.
Opening day: I have a set-up in the river bottom that consist of an area of probably 200 acres, I have five stands set up there, some near the feeder, some on trails, and one climber. I saw a flury of deer opening morning, some good, some will be good in a year or two, some out of range.
Beginning of amazing story: I get to the cabin and a buddy tells us that he shot "Slow-Mo" but couldnt find blood. Four of us ate breakfast and went down in the river bottom to look. We found hair and the first blood. We spent four hours and covered about 500 yards trailing blood until the blood trail just stopped. We were dejected to say the least.
Amazing story part two:
At 7:30am the next morning I get a text from my buddy saying he just shot "Slow-Mo" again. I thought "yeah right", no way. Sure enough, the buck came back to the same spot, jumped in the feed pen with a thru and thru shot in his neck, above the neckbone. Joe stuck him good this time and he was done this time.

I passed on a couple of shooter bucks mainly b/c I have a place I hunt in Harris County that has some monsters and it was going to have to be a true stud for me to kill a buck at the lease. I killed two does, one of which had major carnage and was a very short recovery.

All in all it was a great time. I saw several long spikes that need to be taken but I am saving those for my boys. I will be hunting my Harris County spot for the next couple of weeks so hopefully I will have a big buck to post up.
