Well, one deer on my wish list is in the books. I had been seeing a six point w/ no brow tines all summer and finally got a shot at him last Monday evening. I was in my tripod about 4pm. My feeder went off at 4:15. It was supposed to go off at 4:45. I don't know what happened. But, about 15 minutes after the feeder went off, I heard the sound of something walking thru the rocks. Planning on shooting a fat doe, I picked up my bow, hooked on my release and got ready. I was really suprised when this buck walked out. He never knew I was there. At 18 yards, I made a good quartering away shot. Complete pass thru. I watched him run about 50 yards, stop, look around, then lay down. I waited about 15-20 minutes, called my dad on the radio, put everything in my pack and climbed out of the stand.
This is where the lesson learned comes in. ALWAYS TAKE YOUR BOW/ GUN WHEN YOU GO TO RECOVER YOUR ANIMAL. I was about 15 yards away when my deer got up and walked away. My bow is still at my tripod. I could tell he was hurt, so I moved out and came back a couple hours later. Nice six point, no brow tines. Tarsel glands were black and inside of his back legs were soaking wet.
the Next morning, I went with my dad to his stand. Befor edaylite, we could se deer at the feeders. One real wide 8 point, but very short tines. All of the sudden, we see a buck crashing thru the cedars about 75 yards away. He went thru on opening andf I told dad it was a good but. He got his .06 out the window and waited. When the buck stepped out, I heard, "I'm gonna shoot". And he did. I didn't have time to put my fingers in my ears. Buck never took a step. This buck was also chasing does.
Can't wait til next week to go back. Hoof, I'll see you there. Save a rib eye for me!
