    Son's first bow kill

Cory and I headed to the lease Saturday mid morning. After getting everything unpacked and setup. We got ready for the evening hunt. Cory has been trying to kill a deer with his bow since the second weekend of bow season. He has had 2 shots, but something always seems to happen. He shot high on the first shot he took at a doe that first weekernd. The next weekend hunt, he hit the feeder leg. Maybe this would be the day. We got to the feeder just a little after 3:00. After getting him settled in the ground blind, I went a spun alittle corn out in case any thing showed early. I had only been in the blind about 15 minutes, when a deer was coming in. It was a 3 point that we had seen before. He ate all the corn I had spun out and left before the feeder went off. About 4:00 the feeder went off throwing the golden candy and 30 minutes later we had action. A doe and yearling came cautiosly in. After making a half cicle of the pen, she decided all was o.k. and settled in to a meal. Cory waited patiencely for the right angle for the shot. When the doe got broadside, he drew back. She heard a small sound of the draw and jumped away. He couldn't hold the draw too long and had to let down. The doe calmed back down after a while and started to feed again. Once more she got in the perfect braodside position. Cory drew, the doe raised her head and seemed to look behind us. At the release, the doe tried to duck the string, but not quite fast enough. The arrow entered just a little high and maybe alittle farther back than he had planned. She tore out of there like her tail was on fire. We decided we would wait a while and let things settle down. During the wait, deer kept coming in. 4 more does and yearlings and a nice 120 class 9 point. If we could have gotten him to take just 2 more steps to our left, Cory would have had a braodside shot at him, also. Of course he didn't and left after just 2-3 minutes.
After dark thirty, we went and changed clothes then tried to find the blood trail. She wasn't bleeding very much and it was hard to find blood. With the aid of the maglight, I found a few drops of blood. We found the fletch end and the broadhead end of the shaft after about 50 yards. An hour later, we lost the blod trail and decided to try again in the morning.
Next morning, we resumed the search where we lost the blood trail last night. She had made a turn to the east. Mainly on hands and knees, we followed the blood trail literally one drop at a time for approximately 300 yards. Cory looked up ahead and asked if that was a white belly. I told him to go ahead and check. As he approached the object, he raised his hands in triumph. I can't tell you how relieved I was. We hugged and congratulations started. We got on the cell phone and called Mom and Daddy Don to tell them the news.
Cory had hit her in the liver. She had traveled about 350-400 yards. It was one of the hardest blood trails I have ever had to follow. Just one drop of blood at a time. He learned alot during the track. We talked about trailing and the sign we were seeing and what it meant.
    Daddy couldn't be prouder!!!!!!!!

Tried to attach some pictures, but they are too big and I don't know how to resize them. Maybe I can insert some later.

Here are some pics. Congrats again!
