    2 down, 3 to go.................

Well after only hunting opening morning and shooting a mature hill country 10 pointer right at daybreak, I haven't been back in the stand. Well while watching the aggies play football and not looking too good against Tech I decided to record the rest of the game and go sit in the stand. I still haven't seen a buck on my trailcam other than a small 8 pointer and 2 small spikes. I got on stand about 15 minutes before the feeder went off and within 5 minutes I had my regular crew of 5 does and 3 yearlings eating the corn I had thrown out. As soon as the feeder went off the deer bolted. 10 minutes later two of the does were back eating. At about 5:45pm the two young spikes decided it was dinner time and ran off the does. Shortly there after the future P&Y eight decided it was his dinner time as well and joined the festivities. All three deer kept looking back into the brush and I was sure there was another deer there, but nothing came out. I could hear a deer moving through the brush and just decided it was one of the does. At about 6:30pm I saw a deer walk out of the brush feeding. I couldn't tell what it was because the grass was chest high and the deer had its head down feeding. As soon as the deer lifted it's head I could see a good set of antlers on it. I picked up my bino's and the first thing that I noticed was a drop tine on one antler and a sticker on the other. He fed directly toward me or about 10 minutes and then at 20 yards he turned to his left and was slightly quartering to me. As soon as his shoulder cleared a clump of grass, I drew back settled my 20 yard pin on his elbow and let the arrow fly. He spun quickly and left in a flash. I waited 5 minutes, got out of my blind and headed back to the house to watch the video and verify the shot. After I verified a lethal hit I waited 30 minutes and hit the blood trail. It was an easy one to follow and I found him piled up about 40 yards away. Normally I would have passed on this deer, but last year I passed on a 9 with split G2's was 3.5 years old and my neighbor shot him. I could have shot the 9 about 10 or 15 times last year and was not gonna make the same mistake this year. This is the first and only deer I have ever seen with a droptine and my first buck ever with non-typical points. I would have loved to see him in another 2 years, but I know as soon as my neighbor saw him he was dead. This is one of my favorite bowkills to date. Video to follow sometime this week.
