2 down, 3 to go.............
Well after a succesful opening morning starting out with a mature hill country 10 point I haven't been in the blind until tonight. I have still yet to see a buck other than 2 spikes and a very small 8 point on my trail camera. Well I decided since A&M wasn't looking too good against Tech I would Tevo the game and jump in the pop up and watch the deer. I had 5 does and 2 fawns at the feeder before it ever went off and as soon as it did they hit the road and came back about 15 minutes later. At 5:45pm the two spikes decided to come in and enjoy some corn. Shortly their after the future P&Y 8 pointer showed up and started eating. They kept looking back into the brush, but I couldn't see anything. I knew there was another deer there, but just decided it was a doe. Well at about 6:15 the I could here a deer moving through the brush and out walks this 10 pointer with a sticker on his right beam and what I consider a droptine coming off is left beam close to the base. He fed directly towards me for about 5 minutes. When he reached 20 yards he was slightly quartering towards me. He was getting jumpy so I decided it was now or never. I drew back put the 20 yard pin on his elbow and let the arrow fly. As he spun to run off I could see the fletching sticking out of his shoulder and it appeared to be a solid hit. After reviewing the video and deciding I had made a solid hit, I waited 30 minutes to go look for him. At first there was no blood where he was standing, but about 10 yards away on the trail he took off on there was plenty of blood. The slick trick left a good blood trail for me to follow. The buck made it about 40 yards and piled up. This is my first buck to actually get on video when harvested. I have had all kinds of issues in the past, with mostly either running out of tape (not being able to change it because there were too many deer close by) or the battery going dead. Video to follow in the next few days. This is also the first buck I have eveer harvested with any type of non-typical points. I probably should have let this deer walk another year, but last year I had many shot opportunities on a typical 9 with split G2's on both sets of antlers that was 3.5 and one of my neighbors shot him. This was what made my decision to shoot this deer a little easier. I knew that if my neighbor saw him he was dead and I wasn't going to pass up another opportunity like this, plus he has a unique drop tine.
