Mitch, aka Krivoman sent me an email about a month ago of some trailcam pics of auodads that had moved onto the ranch he is running hunts on. This is the same ranch that I had the opportunity to join an axis lease for a couple of years so I was familiar with the property. I let Mitcnh know the dates that I could hunt and he would see if he could work it out. I threw my gear in the truck for the monthly trip to the deer lease to fill protein feeders this past Friday. On the way down Mitch called with the news that we could hunt Monday, Tuesday, and finish up on Wednesday morning. So after finishing up with protein/camp work at the lease on Sunday, I headed to the old axis lease, making a quick stop for a Sushi Zushi fix.

After experiencing 90 degree weather at the deer lease, I was worried about the weather being hot, and making a quick kill on an auodad if a shot presented itself. I would soon not have to worry about the weather being hot, but chilly. A front blew in Monday morning bringing high winds and much cooler temps. With the high winds on Monday, not much was seen where I hunted. Mitch sat at a tripod Monday evening where he could scout two feeders. Mitch had a shooter come in to his location and also where I sat Monday morning. Tuesday morning I awoke to 39 degrees outside, not that I was complaining, but the heaviest thing I had to wear was a tee shirt. Luckily Mitch had a fleece pullover that he let me use. Mitch dropped me off at the blind I hunted the first morning. The wind was calm and coming out of the east. Shortly after day light a group of rams popped up out of canyon stared at the feeder for at least 10 minutes before making their way in. There were two rams that were clearly larger than the rest of the group. I finally decided which one to take. I drew back and had to let down due to my ram moving around a bullying the smaller rams in the group. He finally stopped and gave me a quartering away shot. Released the arrow tipped with a Steel Force S.O.B. broadhead. The arrow disappeared what appeared to be tight behind the shoulder. I snuck out to the blind and called Mitch. Because of the weather being cool, I wanted to give him plenty of time, so we waited an hour and a half to take up the trail. That wasn't necessary, he piled up less than 75 yards from the blind. I finally got a free range auodad. We took a bunch of pics and loaded him up and headed back to camp. Thanks again Mitch for the opportunity.
