Got pretty lucky this weekend. I had a few TC pics of this buck, but according to the camera he had not shown up for 4 or 5 days. I begged Claire to hunt this stand Sunday morning, but she just did not want to get out of bed. She said I should go hunt the stand anyway and shoot this buck if he showed up. Well, he did, and I did. It was a 17 yard shot. I actually drew on him once at 22 yards, but he was so nervous that I chose not to shoot. I know 22 yards does not seem far, but there is a lot that can happen in that amount of air space when a deer is on alert. He left the area, and then came back a few minutes later following a few does. He was much calmer (and so was I!). When he turned broadside at 17 yards, I let it fly. He is a 10 point with three kickers. His longest tine is a little over 11 inches. I scored him a little conservatively at 144" and change. He is only 13 2/8" inside! I just can't believe the year I am having. It's actually kind-of scarey.
