    "Redemption in Llano"

I remember the first year Hunters Ed. was required. In the booklet I remember reading how "Llano was the deer capital of the world". I thought, "Man one day I'll hunt there".....

Growing up in the farming busness times were always tough and spending money on thing like Deer hunting, for my family was not an option. It was on that same year on Christmas day we were at my Aunts house. After presents two of my Uncles and a cousin of mine all started loading the camper and got ready to go to Llano. When my Uncle turned and asked where my bags were, I just laughed (deep down thinking "thats just wrong"). Thats when He told me THEY WERE TAKING ME TOO!!!

We leave out to go to a "day lease" in Llano. It was late when we got there I slept most of the way. We arived at the lease, signed some papers, and they payed up. No way I could sleep that night..........

Well after three days and four people hunting this "day lease", I shot on the last evening a Squirrel....it was the only fur baring mammal anyone seen in three days.

    Fast Forward 20 years...

I got an invite from a good friend to head back to Llano for three days of bow hunting!!!!!!!!

Got up first morning and shot a hog litteraly 80 yrds from the house, headed to stand and got ready. I actually seen a few deer just nothing that "needed a good killin". Went back to the same stand that evening to try my luck one more time before the front came in that would make that stand a lot more difficult to hunt.
At 4:45 the spike that I had watched ALL DAY threw his head up, then backed up I looked out the side window and there was the 8pt. my buddy had told me to check out. I knew he was at a min 3.5 and since they are all a little run down and just basic facial features I thought was probably a 4.5.

After about 20 min of "cat and mouse" and chaising doe.....show time!
I drew the NEW DESTROYER 350 and sent the evil SlickTrick tipped GoldTip fly at 18 yrds.........PERFECT! He made it a short 70 yrds before hitting the dirt...actually rocks. Broke a brow tine running off but here he is. I'm thankful for the op****unity, and greatful for the blessing.

It took 20 years but I got my "Redemption"

    4.5

I enjoyed your story and congratulations on a great looking buck. Did you go to Cooper's BBQ while you there? That is worth the whole trip for me.
