i think your still 100%. You shot a deer, you gave her time, you tracked her and found her. The shot stunk as much as your arrow in the morning but she jumped and you didn't.

Thanks for the story. As a new bowhunter, it's nice to hear of others experiences. Its my first year and I have killed 2 so far on national forest. Luckily, both have been on relaxed deer at just over 20 yrds. Neither flinched before the arrow hit. I would like to think it is because of my awesomely quiet bow, but I guess I wouldnt know for sure unless I was shooting at a fully alert deer. I can't wait for the opportunity to take another!
      Good luck on number 17!

Good story, Great REMINDER. If you have bowhunted for many moons, you have been there. You know better, but in yet, it happens. Been there, done that. THANKS for the story.

You still made the right decision to let her lay. We deal with the same types of situations up here in IL but sometimes its the chance you have to take. Good luck to you in the future.

It's funny how we "know better" and don't listen to ourselves very often. Good experience for all of us to hear though....Sorry you lost the meat, that's all that really matters...

Me and a good friend have both shot bucks under 25 yds this year and didn't harvest either one. I would have bet the farm that my buck was dead under 100 yds but that was just wishful thinking. Both shots were half way up the body and behind the leg. Mine exited 2" higher and 3" farther forward than the entrance hole. Game cam photos proved that 8 days after the shot. Way to high to kill him but under the spine.
I feel your grief and sorrow, this is only the 3rd deer I have ever lost, 1st buck though, after over 30 deer by bow. I'll be back with vengeance this weekend. Good luck, Aim small/miss small.

Passed on many deer because one thing or another wasn't quite right. I was surprised when it happened to me this year.

We can all learn from one another.

                            Thanks for sharing.

Jerp, the important thing is that you found her.
