Shot this brute about 730 this morning. Scores 134 2/8 P&Y. He has tons of character with brows that are 8 inches and 6.5, and a 2.5 inch flier kicker coming off of his rt G2. Long story but this is a bitter sweet deal. This is my second opportunity to kill a mature buck in 9 days of hunting. On Saturday morning i had a 145"-150" typical 10 with split g1 and g2 on rt side (could have been more trash, this is all i remember seeing) come by at 20 yards, only to blow the shot by hitting too far forward on the front shoulder with the deer quartering to me, breaking the broadhead off at the insert (the deer will live as the broadhead did not make it through the shoulder). I was sick, and truly didn't know if I'd get another opportunity. Well this morning God blessed me with another, and as you can see I made the most of it.
I'll give you all the play by play. I hung the stand last night after reviewing the maps. The spot didn't look like much when Chad and I drove by initially, but upon closer inspection we new it needed a stand. With two seperate creeks hour glassing together, crp for bedding on one side, two milo fields and a alfalfa field all just added up. Anyway, at about 7:28a I stood up to stretch my legs, looked back across the CRP, I could just see his ears and rack above the grass working my way. As he came closer I remember noticing how big of a mess he looked like with his face and back all frozen over with ice (it was 24 this morning!). As mature bucks usually dont do, he followed the script perfectly. He came out of the grass looking for does on the downwind side of the crp straight to me on a string, no call needed. After a perfect 12 yard ,double lung shot he made it almost to the other side of the field before crashing. One of these pics shows the frozen grass with a melted trail through it from where his body heat and blood had melted it as he ran. I thought it was a cool pic. On last years trip I didn't hardly take pics, this year I was prepared.
