    I made a Unicorn!

Alright, this is some crazy stuff!

I killed my first deer with a bow Monday after opening weekend and have been consumed with bow hunting ever since. This stuff is awesome and like no rush I ever experienced. I realize I am preaching to the choir.

I have been skunked since the first, so I got another chance to fill another anterless tag last evening. She came in and knew something was up stomping and head juking and was hanging in the brush. I did not have the best shooting window out of the ground blind and the arrow may have nicked some cedar cover I was using. Probably was me just shaking a bit (I was at full draw for probably 90 secs, though it seemed like 20 minutes) and being new to bow hunting. I felt I had a good bead on her once she started down I let loose and heard a thunk and she piled up right there which I thought was very strange.

Anyway the pics tell the rest of the story and I can not keep from laughing every time I think about the kill. Yeah and you could not have slapped that smile off my face.

    This site is awesome, BTW.

SLICK TRICKS ROCK! Shout out to Mike at Archery Country, they set this newbie up!

Congratulations on the doe. The up-close excitement is something, isn't it?

Were you aiming at her head, or did she spin & turn at the shot as you aimed for her vitals? Either way, I'm sure you can attest to how the head juking would make it a tough target and that's why it's always best to try for the vitals.

    Congratulations again!

Definitely was aiming right behind the shoulder. She was slighly quartering into me and could have turned and raised her head as I shot.

I do not have the game for head shots though I was tempted to joke about it on the thread.

I had something similar happen on opening weekend, my arrow hit the pop up on the way out and spinned her so she dropped instantly. She sat there moaning not able to move so I thought I would shoot another one to end it quickly for her and so she wasn't there suffering, well just as I shot she got a burst of adrenalin and turned and bucked and I ended up getting her in the face ( and man was I PO'ed at myself for taking that shot! ) luckily though I composed myself and put another one in in her lungs and she expired quickly after. I am still so mad at myself for the second one, I was trying to do the right think and put her down quicker but it obviously did not go as planned. Congrats on the doe!

Congrats on the doe. The first doe I shot with my bow did something similar to that. I had it right behind the shoulder as she was quartered away from me. She turned and I ended up sticking her dead in the throat.

It's amazing how fast they can move.

Congrats on the doe! They sure can move fast!

I took a 42 yard shot on a cull buck a few years ago, but when he heard the bow, he did the ninja drop and turned to run away. I don't know how, but I ended up hitting him right in the back of the head. He dropped instantly and expired very quick.

                    Congrats again!

Congratulations and I'm glad that you got your doe and that more importantly, it wasn't the intened shot.

Did the arrow come out intact?

I unscrewed the broadhead and left it in the head, unfortunately.

                              It was stuck like Chuck.
