October 16 finally arrived. We can not shoot does in Avoyelles Parish Louisiana until 10/16 because of the late breeding cycle January-February and there are so many fawns with the mothers early in the year. Well 10/9 I hunted a stand where a big drainage ditch and a canal meet. I have no feed here, trying to stay away from it b/c 5 hogs moved in and are keeping the deer away from the rice bran. I was not expecting much but i ended up seeing 10 does. Even though I could not shoot it was a fun hunt and it is not often I see that many deer in a hunt at our lease. Well 10/16 rolls around and im back in the same stand. 9:00 am comes and not 1 deer has passed. I am pretty bummed out then at 9:35 I see this doe coming down my walk in trail. She gets in the bottom of the big ditch and passes in front of me. I whistle 5 times and she will not stop. She climbs the bank on the opposite side and I let out a baa. Right when i touch my releas she jumps and I hit her in the hind quarter
. Im pretty upset at this point and I gave her 45 minutes. Well when i get down it was a unreal blood trail and she only made it 65 yards. Spent the evening watching football outside and frying fresh shrimp. It was a fun weekend, nice weather, and fresh backstrap inthe fridge.
