After a terrible slow opening weekend I was able to connect Monday evening. The winds have hurt me, had several deer come in but they were all nervous and new something was wrong. The moon and acorns haven't helped.
This guy showed up at about 6:45 yesterday evening and gave me the ultimate shot. I couldn't have gotten him to pose anybetter. Quartering away at 20 yards. The rage went in behind the lat rib and exited in front of the opposite shoulder. My arrow broke off inside his cheat cavity as he spun and ran.
I waited a while to look for blood and had a friend up hunting another stand so I wasn't worried about trailing him.
I texted my friend and he said he foot out of the stand and drove to San Saba.
I started to panic a bit being colorblind but set out to track him on my own.
Thank God for white limestone. I was able to trail him for about 70 yards when I started smelling a rank deer. I got up and started just walkin and following the smell. I found him tangled up in q cedar thee about another 20 yards or so.
I was smelling his tarsal glands they are already black and rank! Looks like we may have an early rut
