Well earlier this year I was invited to hunt hogs on a property that is approx. 5000 acres. Killed a couple of pigs and then they dissappeared until last week and we trapped 6 in a couple of days. During that same time I had a trail cam out on one feeder and had nothing but bucks coming in. Most of them young but this older 7. He stayed a 7 and is at least 5 or 6 years old and we agree to put him on the hit list.
I checked my cameras last weekend and he has been coming in like clock work to this particular feeder, so I knew I stood a good chance of killing him opening weekend. Opening weekend rolls around and finds me sitting in my pop up at 5:30am. Right at day light I hear what I think might be hogs coming to the feeder and was gonna shoot the first one to come in to keep them from eating all my corn up. As luck would have it no pigs came in.
Fast forward to 7am. I send Handikap Bowhunter (Cullen) a text saying "breakfast has been served". A couple of minutes later I send him another text saying the 7 is at the feeder. (Que to turn on video camera). And then a few minutes after that I send him another text telling him the 7 has a bad case of carbon poisoning
.............
I replay the video and notice I hit him a little farther back than wanted and waited 30 minutes before looking for him. The blood trail the Slick Trick made was easy to follow for about the first 75 yards and then only a few drops. I lost the trail a couple of times and then found massive blood again on some high grass and followed it another 25 yards to find the 7 piled up.
The cactus that I found my arrow in was about 10 yards behind where the deer was standing. And thanks to Cullen for coming out and taking pics and holding the deer while I gutted it.
