I got the phone call just as I was passin the hunting area. Just cruisin on my way home from filling feeders. Doin a little scouting also to see what effect the drought has had on the ranch I do game management on.
Not alot of traffic but still some are moving. so no one will be calling about seeing lots of hogs, now I can bowhunt the other end and relax for a while....
ok, back to the call,it seems like someone stepped in a big pile of dog do do... You know the guy that can be in the middle of a parking lot and see a deer on the edge wondering around? Well, Dave is that kinda lucky guy. He wasn't for a long time but after we met on another hunting site we did a scouting trip in the Pali (public hunting area) we set a stand or two and hung a feeder he has had some kinda luck.
Look at this one.....

While trying to stalk into the ladderstand we made couple weeks ago he spotted a nice group of hogs. He did make it to the ladder then was cut off by this sow. so he shot it from 8 yards on the ground.....I tracked her bout 150 yds or so. Hit was a little high and the arrow exited farther back just forward of the ham, as you can see in the pic. I figgered(hoping like crazy actually) it was a liver hit after finding the pass through arrow.
I went slow by slow finally I found her on the other side of the Stream. She made a huge C shape run. up around and over the stream at the top of the finger, but only 50 yds by the way the crow flies.
I carried the bow back, made him do the drag..... at least till he crossed the stream, then I did the hog drag Boogie back to the truck.
The boar that was with her, was half again as large as she was, but offered no shot opportunity. total of seven hogs were all around him.
This was the second hog with the same bow and same arrow, Damon Howatt #51@28 560gr Arrow Dynamic with 125 Snuffer. Glad it was a Snuffer, They turn marginal hits into recoveries.
She weighed in at #92
Congrats Dave
