I didnt know deer could scuba dive?

This is a lil late but I finally got the chance to wright this one up. My dad one a hunt a few years ago but we never got the chance to go on it until this past year. On January 1st my dad and I drove to are ranch in Uvalde and dropped off my dads friend so he could go around and check all the feeders. My dad then took me to Las Lomas Ranch in Zavala county. We got there at around 3:30 and he dropped me off and left. My guide Brandon and I headed to the blind at around 4:00. He corned the road like crazy. When we got into the blind all you could see was yellow. I was sitting on the bucket on the right and he was sitting on the left. It was really hard for me to shoot out of the 2 shooting lanes I had cause the windows on the blind were really low, but the bucket I was sitting on was way above them. So I had to lean down and to the side so I could shoot out of both lanes. At 4:15 the feeder went off and they started to pile in. We had about 8 does come in and then this huge 10 point. He told me that they call him Pete and that I would find out sooner or later. More does just started to pile in from every direction. The feeder was about 40 yards away, but he corned under these 2 mesquite trees that were too my right. At around 4:30 a buck walks about 5 yards from the blind to my left. Brandon couldnt see him so I tapped him on the leg. It was a 10 point that he hasnt seen in months and it was the one he wanted me to take. I got my bow ready with the trusty grizz trick. The buck that I was after went straight for the feeder. He was there for a good 15 minutes and he started walking to the 2 mesquite trees. I looked out of my shooting land and he was right in the middle. I asked Brandon If I could take the shot and leaned over and was like go ahead. The buck was hitting his horns on the mesquite tree above him and I drew back. None of the 20 heard me and I put it right on him. I had to lean over to the left and down almost shooting the bow like a crossbow. I put it right on him and was just about to let it fly when Brandon said wait for the doe to pass. A doe slowly walked right in front of him and feed for a few seconds. As soon as she cleared i put my finger back onto the trigger, but Pete walks right behind him and starts to hit the same tree he was. I waited for what seemed like hours but Pete finally passed. My muscles were starting to get a lil shaky and also I was shooting the biggest buck of my life. I let the arrow fly and looked it looked like i hit him right a few inches right behind the shoulder. Brandon and I started giving high fives. We got out of the blind and walked to the truck. I text my dad and a few friends. I shot him at around 4:45 and we waited untill 5:30. We drove the truck to the spot where I shot him and my arrow was covered in blood. We started following the trail and it was a ton of blood. It just kept on getting worse and worse. At about 90 yards there was a huge pile of blood and looked like a big chunk of lung was laying on the ground. We looked a around and didn't see anything so Brandon said lets back out and I got some neighbors who have dogs. Well on are way back to the truck Pete was eating the corn right next to the truck. I got about 20 yards away from him and he didn't care at all. Brandon told me that he has been like that for years. We headed back to the lodge and the the dog guys showed up around 6:30. We took him to the spot and they let the lead dog go. He was right on the trail. We started following and following then all of the sudden you could hear a deer running. They let the other dogs go and they were all on the chase. They had there GPS and we would stop lile every 5 minutes to see where the dogs were. We followed the dogs all the way to this huge tank. This was like a 30 acre tank that a huge island in the middle. The dogs were running back and forth on the island. It was the wierdest thing that i had ever seen. We walked all the way around the tank so we could get on the path that lead to the island. When we got there the dogs were still running back and forth. I just randomly put my flashlight down on the ground to take a **** and there was a big pile of blood. I told the dog guy and he followed the blood trail. and went all the way to the bank on the side from where we first saw the dogs. He then followed it all the way to the other side of the island and there was a big pile of blood in the water. It looked like the movie Jaws when someone gets bit and theres all this blood in the water. We searched around the whole tank and found no sign of the buck getting out. At around 9:30 we gave it quits and the dog guy told me that we need to check the tank the next morning because he thinks that hes underwater. Brandon and I headed back ate and went to bed. I didnt sleep much but I was completely ready at 7:00 the next morning to drive down there. Brandon and I drove down to the tank and didn't see anything. He drove down the path to the island and about 40 yards to the left of where we found all that blood in the water we could see wat looked like a floating tire. We drove up to it and it was a deers butt floating. I was sitting there thinking how bad it would suck if I pulled out the wrong deer. But we got a rope with a hook on the end and threw it around his legs. We pulled him to shore and it was my buck. I was the happiest guy alive and it was my first PYB scoring 135 5/8. I had an awsome time and will never ever forget this hunt. Thanks for reading. Carsen

Nice story, and nice buck. When I was younger, not that is was legal then, we used to run dogs and the deer would usually run to the water or river. As well as I can remember. That is where they always sat us, when the dogs were on a hot trail, and told us to get ready.
