He wasn't much in the rack department because he was a cull deer that the land owner had told me to take if I got the chance. To me, he's the trophy of all time. After a couple years of trying to get a buck, I finally found success.
The shot was a bit high because he was only 17 yards and ducked at the shot. High lung hit. It took about 40, very worried, yards to start finding really good blood. Then it looked like somebody turned on a blood faucet. He piled up about 120yds from where I hit him.
I forgot to take a camera with me so the only photo I have is from my game camera. The arrow can be seen in the foreground and the buck is running off above in the distance.
My only regret was that I climbed out of my ground blind after 20 minutes. Had I waited another 10 or so, there was a really nice 3X4 heading into the feeder. When I stood up, he turned around and trotted off. So much for 2 for Tuesday.
I'm absolutely riding on a high that just won't stop right now. Just when I was ready to hang up the bow and get out the rifle for the rest of the year. No chance of that now. I've got another 15 days to hunt before I go off shore again and I'm going to try and arrow another couple of deer before I go.
