Opening morning was the first time for Marshall and I to bowhunt together. He now claims to be my good luck charm. The morning hunt netted a pig at about 100 pounds. On the walk out we saw some does and a nice 2 1/2 year old 8 all crossing at about 60 yards.
On to the afternoon. Rain moved in and at about 6 I thought we were gonna have to pack it in. We were standing up in the buddy stand and he whispers..."DAD theres a doe right there"
Sure enough she comes out at 10 yards and turns to our right. I grabbed my bow, drew, and at 30 yards meemed. She stopped and I drilled here. It was a hard quartering away shot. Arrow went in behind her back right rib and exited the left front shoulder. 3 second run and we hear her crash.
I let Marshall work out the blood trail (not that it was needed) and taught him about waiting after the shot. While we were waited he said Dad I didnt know you still got excited! I told him doing it with the bow was second to having him in the stand with me. We prayed and thanked God for the experience. Without a doubt on of our greatest memories together..
Here are a few pics.
